Colopoda

The Colopoda is a smaller protozoan and belongs to the Phyllum Ciliophora. It is from 40-110 um long.

Colopoda are kidney shaped and are cocave on one side and covex on the other. These are the first protozoa to appear in hay infusions and can often be found in moist soil.

Colopoda feed on a variety of bacteria and there have been a lot of studies on the ecological role that Colopoda play in soil.
